Realme 8 Review - Stylish Smartphone with Promising Ability

Realme has just released their latest two cellphones, one of which is Realme 8. This HP became the successor of the previous series, namely Realme 7. That means there are some changes to be offered.

Realme 8 Review - Stylish Smartphone with Promising Ability

Well, what are the changes? I also had the opportunity to hold directly and test the capabilities of the latest 2021 realme cellphone.

The following are the results of the realme 8 review based on my experience using it for several days.

Realme sales package 8

The realme 8 box itself still uses a typical color, yellow. The realme logo with the number 8 is very clearly displayed on the front. The back is written several specifications of realme 8, such as processors, RAM capacity to color.

When opening the contents of the realme 8 sales box we will get a smartphone unit, USB Type-C cable, 30W Dart Charge adapter, SIM card cord, installed screen protector, smartphone case, fast guidebook, and warranty card.

More luxurious designs

The appearance of the realme 8 is quite stylish that they call Infinite Bold Design. The body is quite thin with a thickness of only 8mm, thinner than the previous series that has a 9.4mm body.

Realme itself sets this cellphone to become the Best Performance Stylish Phone in the mid-range and become a new standard in the mid-range segment.

Where there are interesting things in the back cover section. The realme 8 unit I received was the color of the silver cyber (there was also a choice of cyber black colors) which displays a luxurious impression like a premium cellphone.

It looks like a wide line that has a realme slogan 'dare to leap'. When viewed from some corners it will produce several colors. While the other side only in the form of fine lines with a neat arrangement.

Just unfortunately this back cover still left a lot of fingerprint traces. So I prefer to use a case that has indeed been prepared by realme in the purchase package.

It feels a little thicker, but using a case will make the device clean from the remaining fingerprints, and safer than the risk of scratches.

Still in the back, installed four camera modules arranged in a square, two above and two below. Whereas for LED flash it is under the camera module side by side with the writing of 64 MP Quad Camera.

There is no fingerprint sensor on the back and side because Realme places the sensor on the screen (in-display fingerprint). The ability of sensor fingerprint in realme 8 is very good because it can recognize fingerprints in a quick time without pressing the screen hard.

While for ports it feels not much different from other HP realme, such as using a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio port to two speakers at the bottom.

Super AMOLED screen

One of the significant differences in realme 8 of the previous series was on the screen. This time Realme already used the Super AMOLED screen in the 8 Series line (the previous series still in IPS).

The resolution has also been FullHD + 1080 x 2400 pixels that are displayed on a 6.4-inch screen with a brightness rate of 1000 nits. For use in the room, the screen is quite pampering.

But it still has weaknesses when under sunlight. Because I still feel a little trouble when using it outside the room in bright weather.

In addition, the refresh rate of this screen is also still a standard of 60Hz which is lower than the previous generation with a capacity of 99Hz. So here Realme chooses to improve the color quality screen by reducing the refresh rate.

For me, this is not a big problem, because with this 60Hz this screen is still very comfortable to use. But if Realme does not reduce it, of course, it will be much better.

Especially in general the quality of the screen display is very good with the color that stands out. And I enjoy the screen to watch Netflix, YouTube, and playing games.

Realme UI 2.0 and NFC

Realme 8 itself runs with realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. The latest UI is arguably quite fast and more responsive and brings some default applications. But if it's not used we can still delete it.

In addition, many new features are offered, one of them is always on display that will display hours info, notifications even though the screen is locked.

There is also a Dark Mode feature that can be modified by the level of darkness. Starting from low to thick black, it can be chosen according to the comfort of the eye.

To be sure, Realme UI 2.0 presents more ways for us to adjust the device's display. Like changing the icon, choose the theme and the other.

What is not interesting, Realme 8 still maintains the NFC feature which is also in the previous series. This feature is one of my factors in buying HP.

Because the NFC makes it easy for me to check the e-money balance and recharge the balance just by attaching it to the device.

64 MP camera

Now go on to the camera's ability. For specifications, the realme 8 camera has four sensors on the back. This camera consists of the main camera 64 MP, 8 MP, 2 MP, and 2 MP.

The main camera that has 64 MP resolution has an F / 1.8 aperture so it has great lighting. There is also a PDAF feature that can lock the focal point quickly.

Realme 8 Review - 64 MP camera

This main camera can be used by selecting a 64m menu on the camera application. For the quality, it is quite capable during the day because it can produce bright photos with the best color level.

The second camera of Realme 8 has an 8 MP resolution with an F / 2.3 aperture. This camera is a type of ultrawide that can be used to shoot at a wide-angle. Like photographing panoramas, buildings, or natural scenery.

To use it select the 'Photo' menu on the camera application then select the far left point later the ultrawide notification will appear at the top. The resulting angle reaches 119 degrees.

The third camera in Realme 8 is a macro camera that can be used to photograph objects within a very close distance (ranging 4cm). So the object will look bigger than the original form and more visible detailed.

The last camera on the back is the depth camera that can be used to make a Blur photo. This camera is indeed quite popular because it can make photos with blur backgrounds that are commonly produced by SLR and mirrorless cameras.

Even though it was only 2 MP but the results of the Blur photo were quite good, the blur effect looked quite neat and natural.

Beyond it, Realme also has interesting features on the camera, such as tilt-shift mode, Starry Mode, Neon Portrait, Dynamic Blur & Dual-view videos that have been improved.

Helio G95 Performance

Speaking of performance, Realme 8 uses the same chipset as Realme 7, namely MediaTek Helio G95. This means that this latest realme cellphone is not much different from its predecessor series.

Almost all heavy games such as pubg, codm, genshin impact can be played smoothly even though they don't use the highest settings.

At least for the pubg I can still play with the maximum setting of Low graphics and ultra frame rates and HD graphics with high frame rate.

No need to worry about excessive heat, because realme 8 has been equipped with Copper Liquid Cooling System that presents 2.4% cooling efficiency.

For benchmark scores, testing with Geekbench was found in the score 534 (single-core) and 1701 (multi-core) and was above the Samsung Galaxy A71. Then with PCMark, Realme 8 received a score of 9733.

Continue with 3DMark, the score recorded was 2606 (Extreme Sling Shot), 1499 (Wild Life Stress Test), and 1490 (Wild Life).

The last is Antu, where this cellphone got a score of 359,150. What should be noted, I've used Antu Version 9. So maybe the results will be different if you use antutu version 8.

Durable battery

The realme 8 resource comes from a 5000 mAh capacity battery. Although not the biggest, but the size of this battery includes large for everyday use.

At least for normal use without gaming, I can use Realme 8 for 1 day full of 25 percent remaining battery.

While combined with playing games depends on the duration of the gaming. To note, when playing the Call of Duty game, within 30 minutes the battery fell by 7-8 percent in the high settings.

Then play pubg in one hour to spend a battery of 5-6 percent with HD graphics settings and high frame rates.

While when playing YouTube videos, I set up a screen brightness by 50 percent and played 720p HD video. The result is 60 minutes the realme 8 battery is only reduced by 6-7 percent.

Now continue to charge the battery that supports 30W fast filling technology. Within 15 minutes of charging, the battery has increased by 34 percent. Then for 30 minutes, it has been filled up to 60 percent.

Entering one charging the battery is filled with 98 percent and reaches 100 percent in a count of 1 hour 5 minutes. Including fast with a 5000mAh battery size.

Conclusion

When compared to the previous series, namely Realme 7, the specifications of Realme 8 did not change significantly. But in design, realme 8 looks more luxurious with a futuristic Infinite Bold Design.

The middle cellphone looks quite interesting in my opinion. Moreover, realme also improves the quality of the screen using the Super AMOLED screen and a fingerprint in-display sensor.

Performance is indeed nothing different from the previous series, still using the MediaTek Helio G95 processor with 8GB RAM and 128 GB ROM.

But in the performance of realme 8 can be an option for you, especially those who are looking for new cellphones. With a price of $ 223.58 (Price depends on the place of purchase) you will get a cellphone with a super AMOLED screen, a sharp camera, gloomy gaming performance, and already have the NFC feature.
